IC 31-17-2-15 Joint Legal Custody [PDF] – Religion of parent may not be used as a factor when making determination.
This bill seeks to protect the private thoughts and beliefs of parents involved in child custody proceedings from being used in determining whether an award of joint legal custody is appropriate. This bill provides that the religious or other beliefs or practices of a parent may not be used in determining legal custody of a child unless the child is exposed to or is a direct participant in those beliefs or practices.
